Get paid to clean
your community.

Put your phone on a grabber or chest mount, pick up litter, and let the AI count every piece. On a funded property during its funded hours you earn 3¢ for every verified item, credited as Gold Coins (1 Gold Coin = $1). Everywhere else, including a funded property outside its funded hours, you earn Green Coins and time toward community-service hours. You choose where, when and for how long.

Who
18+ for paid work. Ages 13 to 17 can earn Green Coins with a parent's or guardian's consent.
A worker in a high-visibility vest uses a grabber with a phone clipped to it to pick up a plastic bottle on a wooded path, holding a gray trash bag.

The phone on the grabber films every pickup, and GPS marks where it happened.

How it works

One session, start to finish

No dispatcher and no supervisor. You pick the ground, the phone records, and software does the counting and the pay.

  1. The Litter Gig app map: a Gold Zone outlined in yellow over a satellite view of a neighborhood, with an Earn button.

    Step 1: Pick your ground.

Open the map. Gold Zones are properties an owner has funded, shown with their open hours; step inside one during those hours to start a paid session, after the app's quick safety huddle. Everywhere else is Green, and no account is needed to start.

  2. The recording screen during a work session: the camera looks down a grabber into an open trash bag, with the session timer and a zone map below.

    Step 2: Record hands-free.

Tap Earn and the camera records your session at 720p, video only with no sound, while GPS logs where you are. Keep your own tally by tapping, or just say the numbers out loud.

Voice counting works in the pilot test builds; on Android it first downloads a voice model of about 40 MB over Wi-Fi.

  3. A session summary from June 13, 2026 in Green mode: a Watch Work Session button, 8 litter collected, 0.24 Green Coins and $0.00 gig earnings, and a Share My Work Log button.

A real pilot test from June 13, 2026: 8 items verified in 25 seconds, 0.24 Green Coins. Small, because the pilot is small.

Step 3: The AI counts every piece.

When you finish, the video uploads (on Wi-Fi by default) and the AI lists every pickup with the moment it went into the bag. Settlement runs on our server, so nothing on the phone can change the count.

  4. Step 4: Bin your bags, get paid.

On a Gold Zone, film each bag going into a bin; Gold pay is released once the disposal video is verified, and a session without verified disposal is paid as Green instead. Green Coins post right after the count is verified.

Pay

Two ways to earn, one wallet

Every item has to be verified before it counts. Where you clean decides what it earns.

Sponsored properties

3¢ per verified item

Standard rate in Maryland · 1 Gold Coin = $1.00

  • Earned only inside a property an owner has funded, during its funded hours, or at a Gold-verified event.
  • You're paid per verified item. $15 is our target for the average payout, not a guarantee. Pickups beyond what the owner has funded count as Green.
  • Each pickup is matched to your GPS track. Pickups near the zone's edge, or where GPS is weak, can be paid as Green instead.
  • Pay is released after your bags are verified going into a bin on video.
  • While official Litter Gig bags are in testing, a session where you skip the bag scan pays 20% less, and a property owner can report bags left behind.
  • Cash withdrawals to your bank through Stripe Connect open with the public launch. During the pilot, Gold earnings are tracked in your wallet.
  • For members 18 and over.

Rates come from our live settings and can change. Event hosts can set a higher per-item price for their event, never a lower one.

Green Coins · community

Everywhere else

3 Green Coins per 100 verified items

  • Parks, streets, trails and community cleanups, plus any funded property outside its funded hours. No sponsor needed.
  • Guests can start before creating an account; the coins move to your account when you sign up on the same phone.
  • Every verified minute of a Green cleanup counts toward community-service hours, and each certificate has a public page your school or program can check. Ask them whether they accept it.
  • Spend Green Coins on merchant rewards as local partners join with the public launch.
  • Found sharps or a biohazard? Don't touch it. Drop a hazard pin for 50 Green Coins.
  • Open to members 13 and up; ages 13 to 17 need a parent's or guardian's consent.

Green Coins have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn.

Both kinds of session also earn

Time bonus

2 Green Coins for every 30 minutes of active recording, up to 8 hours a session, once at least one item is verified. Flagged sessions don't earn it.

Seasonal bonuses

Limited-time multipliers, like 1.5× Green Coins for Earth Day, apply only inside their dates.

Achievements

Some achievements pay bonus Green Coins when they unlock.

Pickups per hour300 an hour

Pace depends on how much litter is on the ground. We haven't measured a typical pace on real Gold sessions yet, so this is an example, not an average: 150 verified items in a 30-minute session earn $4.50.

Session length30 minutes

Example Gold earnings for a 30-minute session

$4.50

150 verified items × 3¢ = 4.5 Gold Coins

+ 2 Green Coins time bonus

During the pilot this is tracked in your wallet; cash withdrawals open with the public launch.

Assumes every pickup is verified and credited inside a funded Gold Zone, your bags are verified in a bin, and no seasonal bonus applies. A session where you skip the bag scan pays 20% less while official Litter Gig bags are in testing.

This is an example, not a quote or a promise. Litter Gig pays a published piece rate for verified items only and does not guarantee any amount of work or any hourly or minimum earnings. What you earn depends on how much litter there is, how fast you pick it up, and how many of your pickups the AI verifies inside the zone. Rates come from our live settings and can change. During the pilot, Gold earnings are tracked in your wallet; cash withdrawals open with the public launch.

Verification

Why you can trust the count

Pay per item only works if both sides believe the count. This is how it is kept honest, for you and for the property owner.

Every pickup is itemized.

The AI lists each item with the moment it went into the bag, and you can watch the session back in the app.

Your tally is your check.

Count as you go by tapping or saying the numbers. Your count never changes your pay, but if it and the AI's count are far apart, the session is flagged for review. You can note 'Your count' afterwards for your own records.

Settlement runs on our server.

Counts, zone credit and pay are worked out by server code, not the phone. If part of a video fails to upload or verify, it is retried rather than counted as zero.

Boundaries are graded.

Each pickup is placed on your GPS track. Pickups well inside a Gold Zone count as Gold; near the edge, or where GPS is weak, part of the session can be paid as Green.

Staging doesn't pay.

On Gold sessions the AI looks for pre-filled bags, indoor work, trash taken back out of the bag and natural debris, and a tight pile of pickups in the first five minutes earns less Gold credit. Staging litter can cost you your coins and your account.

Straight about the AI.

We test both counting models against clips people counted by hand. The free model that counts Green sessions is newer and can miss pickups, so keep your own tally while we improve it.

The property owner gets the same itemized list, so the list that bills them is the list that pays you.

Getting set up

What you need

Not much, and nothing you have to buy from us.

A worker in an orange high-visibility vest, with a phone clipped to her chest, picks up a wrapper with a green grabber on a park path and carries a clear trash bag.
A chest mount lets the camera see what your grabber picks up.

To start

  • A smartphone and a way to mount it: a chest mount or a grabber mount, so the camera sees every pickup hands-free.
  • A high-visibility vest, a grabber and gloves. Our terms require them while you work; closed-toe shoes are a good idea too. The app links to retail listings, and there is nothing to buy from Litter Gig.
  • Wi-Fi for uploads. Videos wait for Wi-Fi by default, so sessions don't eat your data.

To earn Gold

  • An earner profile in the app: photos of your government ID, your date of birth and home address, and a profile photo.
  • A home trash-disposal spot for your own bags, set with three photos.
  • Three agreements signed with your typed legal name: the independent contractor agreement, the hazard awareness and property release, and the insurance acknowledgement.
  • Payout details through Stripe, ready for when withdrawals open with the public launch.

Getting the app

Pilot testers use test builds today. Everyone else gets the store links at launch through the waitlist below.

You must be at least 13 to hold an account. Members aged 13 to 17 can join Green cleanups and earn Green Coins with consent from a parent or guardian, captured during onboarding. Paid Gold work, hosting events and cash withdrawals are for members 18 and over.

Safety and coverage

Stay safe, and know what's covered

Litter lives next to traffic, weather and the occasional needle. Here is how to work safely, and a straight answer on insurance.

The five-point safety huddle

Cleanup is outdoor work and you take part at your own risk, so these rules matter. The app includes a five-point safety huddle for Gold Zone sessions; make it your habit before every cleanup.

  1. Be seen. Wear a high-visibility safety vest.
  2. Protect hands and feet. Heavy-duty gloves and closed-toe shoes.
  3. Never touch litter by hand. Use your grabber, and pin sharps or biohazards instead of picking them up.
  4. Watch for traffic. Look out for reversing cars and blind spots, and stay out of roadways and off highways.
  5. Check the conditions. Weather, light and footing. If it isn't safe, don't start.

Coverage, in plain words

Your own injuries are not covered today. Litter Gig does not provide injury, health or accident coverage for workers. You are responsible for your own.
Planned

An occupational accident program, paid by Litter Gig at no cost to you, covering injuries while a session is recording. It starts at whichever comes first: 100 active workers, 1,000 worker-hours in a month, or the first sponsor contract that requires it. The app will tell you when it's live.

The full insurance section is section 8 of our terms.

Background checks: planned, and only where required.

Usually not needed. Most properties don't require one; a few, such as schools, clinics and secured sites, will accept only workers who meet the background-check level the owner sets. Background checks are planned and not yet available. When they open they'll be optional, for members 18 and over, and run through Checkr. A background check has a third-party fee that depends on the level you choose, paid from your Gold earnings. Litter Gig charges what Checkr charges and keeps nothing. The app will show the fee and ask before you pay. Properties that require a check pay an earnings premium: 1% to 3% of verified pickups, depending on the level.

Hazard pins.

Sharps, needles or a biohazard? Don't touch it. Drop a pin: you earn 50 Green Coins, and recording pauses for anyone within 20 meters.

You're independent.

You're an independent contractor, not an employee. You choose whether, when, where and how long to work, and you can work for anyone else. Earnings are reported on a 1099 where required.

Questions

Questions workers ask

Workers

How much can I earn?

It depends on how much litter you find and how fast you pick it up. Gold sessions pay one standard rate, 3¢ per verified item in Maryland, the same on every property; an event host can set a higher price for their event, never a lower one. For example, 150 verified items in a 30-minute session earn $4.50. While official Litter Gig bags are in testing, a session where you skip the bag scan pays 20% less: the same 150 items earn $3.60. Each Gold Zone in the app shows its recent pace once it has sessions, and the estimator on the Workers page shows the math for any pace and session length. Litter Gig does not guarantee any amount of work or any hourly or minimum earnings: you are an independent contractor paid a published piece rate, and you choose where and when to work.

Workers

When and how do I get paid?

Gold pay is released after your session is verified and your bags are verified going into a bin on video, and it lands in your wallet as Gold Coins worth $1.00 each. Withdrawals to your bank go through Stripe Connect and open with the public launch; during the pilot, Gold earnings are tracked in your wallet. Green Coins post right after verification and are for rewards, never cash. If a property owner reports bags left behind or disputes a session, Gold pay for that session waits until we review it.

Workers

Can I start now?

The pilot runs in Montgomery County, Maryland, with a small group of testers on test versions of the app: Android through Google Play internal testing and iOS through TestFlight. The apps go public in the first quarter of 2027. Join the waitlist and we'll email you the App Store and Google Play links at launch.

Workers

What do I need?

A smartphone and a chest or grabber mount so the camera sees your pickups hands-free, plus a high-visibility vest, a grabber and gloves, which our terms require while you work. The app links to retail listings for a starter kit; there is nothing to buy from Litter Gig. For paid Gold work you'll also set up an earner profile with a photo ID and sign three short agreements.

Workers

Is there an age requirement?

You must be at least 13 to hold an account. Members aged 13 to 17 can join Green cleanups and earn Green Coins with consent from a parent or guardian, captured during onboarding. Paid Gold work, hosting events and cash withdrawals are for members 18 and over.

Workers

Am I an employee?

No. Litter Gig workers are independent contractors: you decide when and where to work, use your own equipment, are paid a published piece rate for verified work and may work for anyone else. Earnings are reported on a 1099 where required. The contractor agreement you sign during onboarding sets this out.

Workers

Am I covered if I get hurt?

Not today. Litter Gig does not provide health, accident or injury coverage for workers; you are responsible for your own. We plan an occupational accident program, paid by Litter Gig at no cost to you, covering injuries while a session is recording. It starts at whichever comes first: 100 active workers, 1,000 worker-hours in a month, or the first sponsor contract that requires it, and the app will tell you when it's live. Section 8 of our terms sets out Litter Gig's insurance in full.

Workers

Do I need a background check?

Usually not.
