Litter Gig, LLC ("we", "our", "us") operates the Litter Gig website, mobile apps and services. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have. Litter Gig verifies litter cleanup on video with location data, so we collect more than a typical app; this page is meant to make that clear.
1. What we collect
- Account information: name, email address, phone number, username, profile photo and, for earners, home address, date of birth and government ID photos used to confirm identity. Members aged 13 to 17 also provide a parent or guardian's name, email and consent.
- Location data: precise GPS position and accuracy during active sessions, at least every ten seconds and on movement, used to place each pickup on the map, credit sponsored properties, build litter heat maps and show recent pace per zone. We do not track location when a session is not running.
- Video: continuous video of cleanup sessions and of bags being disposed of, recorded at 720p from a phone mounted to the worker, analysed by automated models to count items and check disposal, and shown to the sponsor of the property, to our administrators and on receipts.
- Earnings and payments: wallet balances, coins, payouts and sponsor escrow activity. Card and bank details go directly to Stripe; we store only tokens and the last four digits.
- Usage and device data: app version, device type, crash and performance logs, and the pages you use.
- Background checks (planned): for a worker who requests an optional background check, we send Checkr, Inc. the information the check requires: first, last and middle name (if given), email, phone number, ZIP code, work location and your Litter Gig user ID. We never send, and Checkr never gives us, your Social Security number, date of birth, driver's license information or the contents of any report. The date of birth collected above is for Litter Gig's own age check and is never sent to Checkr. We keep the Checkr identifiers and statuses for your check: candidate, invitation and report ids, status, package or level, result, assessment, adjudication, estimated completion time and dates. Only Litter Gig administrators see a worker's check status; a property owner whose property requires a level sees only whether a worker meets it.
2. How we use it
- To verify, settle and pay for cleanup sessions and to produce itemized receipts for sponsors.
- To detect and prevent fraud, including staged sessions, pre-filled bags and tampered video, and to resolve disputes.
- To run leaderboards, achievements, friends feeds, events and service-hour certificates.
- To measure verified items per active hour by state and by zone, show each zone's recent pace in the app, and review the standard per-item rate, using aggregated session statistics.
- To support you, send transactional email (receipts, low-balance alerts, replies to requests) and improve the Platform. We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
3. Who processes it for us
Data is shared only with service providers that operate the Platform under contract:
- Google Cloud and Firebase: authentication, database, file storage, hosting of paid (Gold) session video, and backup storage of public (Green) session video when our own video store is unavailable.
- Google Vertex AI (Gemini): automated analysis of paid (Gold) session video, disposal clips and ID document images.
- Self-hosted and RunPod-hosted verification: public (Green) session video is stored and analysed on computers we operate ourselves. When they are unavailable, the video is stored in Google Cloud and analysed by an open-weights model on RunPod serverless GPUs.
- Stripe: sponsor payments, escrow and worker payouts.
- Vercel: hosting of the website and its API.
- Google Maps: maps, geocoding and address search.
- Resend: transactional email.
- Checkr, Inc.: the consumer reporting agency that runs optional, planned background checks for workers who request one, on its own pages under its own FCRA disclosure and authorization.
We also share session video, per-item locations and worker display names with the sponsor of the property where a paid session took place, as part of the receipt, and service-hour certificates with the organization you choose to redeem with. We may disclose data when required by law or to protect users or the Platform.
4. Bystanders and data licensing
Session video is recorded outdoors and may capture passers-by. We ask workers not to record in places where people expect privacy. We have not licensed any session data to third parties. If we ever offer aggregated spatial data as a product, it will first be stripped of identities, faces and license plates, trimmed near workers' homes, aggregated to map cells with low-accuracy fixes dropped, and disclosed in this policy before any data leaves the Platform.
5. Retention and deletion
Session video is kept while it is needed for verification, receipts and disputes; our retention target is ninety days after settlement, longer only while a dispute is open. Account and transaction records are kept for as long as your account exists and as required for tax and financial reporting. You may request an export or deletion of your account and personal data at any time from the app settings or by emailing us; some records must be kept where the law requires.
6. Children
The Platform is not for children under 13, and we delete accounts we learn belong to them. Members aged 13 to 17 may take part only in unpaid Green cleanups with a parent or guardian's consent, which we record with the guardian's name and email.
7. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our providers, access is limited to what each role needs, money and count fields cannot be written by the apps, and payment details never touch our servers. No system is perfectly secure; tell us at once if you believe your account has been compromised.
8. Your choices
- Location and camera permissions can be withdrawn in your device settings; sessions cannot be verified without them.
- Uploads can be limited to Wi-Fi in the app settings.
- Profile, name and phone visibility can be set to public, friends or private.
- You can export or delete your data as described above.
9. Changes and contact
We will post changes here and update the date above; material changes are announced in the apps or by email. Questions: khughes@LitterGig.com · Litter Gig, LLC, Damascus, Maryland.
