Terms version 2026.10.3 · Last updated: October 7, 2026
These terms govern your use of the Litter Gig website, mobile apps and services (the "Platform") operated by Litter Gig, LLC, a Maryland limited liability company based in Damascus, Maryland ("Litter Gig", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Platform you agree to them. Sponsors, workers and organizations also accept specific agreements inside the portal and the apps (the property attestation; the independent-contractor agreement, hazard-awareness and property release, and insurance acknowledgement; and, for members aged 13 to 17, a parent or guardian's consent). Those agreements are part of these terms, and if they conflict with this page, the specific agreement controls.
Litter Gig is a marketplace. Property owners, property managers, municipalities and event hosts ("Sponsors") register outdoor areas ("Gold Zones") or events and fund an escrow. Independent workers ("Workers") record litter-cleanup sessions on video with GPS, and automated verification counts the items collected and confirms their disposal. Sponsors pay only for verified pickups, at the per-item price shown in the portal, which includes Litter Gig's platform fee. Anyone may also clean public spaces in unpaid Green sessions and earn Green Coins. Merchants and organizations ("Partners") may accept Green Coins for rewards or as verified community-service hours. Litter Gig provides the software, verification, escrow and settlement; it does not perform cleanup and does not employ Workers.
Workers are independent contractors, not employees, agents or joint venturers of Litter Gig or of any Sponsor. Workers decide whether, when, where and how long to work, use their own equipment, may work for others, and are paid a published piece rate for verified work. Litter Gig does not guarantee any amount of work, any hourly wage or any minimum earnings. Workers are responsible for their own taxes; earnings are reported on IRS Form 1099 where required. Nothing on the Platform creates an employment relationship.
Litter Gig maintains a commercial general liability policy (Evanston Insurance Company, a Markel company, placed through Terrapin Insurance Group; $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate) covering Litter Gig's liability for work performed by its independent contractors. Property owners whose properties are cleaned are added as additional insureds on a primary and non-contributory basis with a waiver of subrogation, at no cost. The policy does not cover injuries to Workers, pollution or cyber incidents, and there is no per-session policy. Litter Gig does not currently provide occupational-accident, health or any other injury coverage to Workers; Workers are responsible for their own health and accident coverage. Litter Gig plans an occupational accident program, paid by Litter Gig at no cost to Workers and covering injuries only while a session is recording, that will activate at whichever comes first: 100 active Workers, 1,000 Worker-hours in a month, or the first Sponsor contract that requires it. Workers will be notified in the apps when it is available, and these terms, the apps and the website will be updated at that time.
Litter Gig plans to offer an optional background check for Workers aged 18 and older. A check is required only to work a property whose Sponsor sets a background-check level for it; most properties do not require one. The check will be run by Checkr, a consumer reporting agency, on Checkr's own pages, under Checkr's own FCRA disclosure and authorization. A background check has a third-party fee that depends on the level the Worker chooses, paid from the Worker's Gold earnings; Litter Gig charges what Checkr charges and keeps nothing. The app shows the fee before the Worker confirms. The fee is not refunded once Checkr runs the report, and it is returned to the Worker's Gold balance if Checkr cancels the report before running one. A property that requires a check carries a worker-pay premium of 1% to 3% of the verified pickups, depending on the level the Sponsor requires: the Worker earns that percent of the verified pickups on that property as an earnings premium, and the Sponsor's bill for Gold sessions on that property adds the premium plus the standard platform fee on that premium. Litter Gig reviews every result; Sponsors never see reports and see only whether a Worker meets the level their property requires. Before any final decision, a Worker will receive a pre-adverse action notice with a copy of the report and a summary of rights, and at least five business days to respond, followed by a final notice. Arrests that did not result in a conviction are never considered. Background checks are planned for work performed in the United States.
You keep ownership of the video, photos and profile content you provide. You grant Litter Gig a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, analyse, display and share that content as needed to operate the Platform, including showing session video to the Sponsor of the property, to administrators and on receipts, and to improve verification. Bystanders may appear in session video; you must not record inside buildings or in places where people expect privacy. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.
The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, Litter Gig disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Automated verification is accurate but not perfect; the dispute process exists to correct errors. We do not guarantee that any property will be cleaned, that any Worker will be available, or that the Platform will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Litter Gig and its members, managers, advisors and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the Platform or from any cleanup session, even if advised of the possibility. Our total liability for any claim arising from the Platform is limited to the greater of one hundred U.S. dollars or the platform fees you paid to us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.
You will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Litter Gig from claims, damages and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your breach of these terms, your violation of law or third-party rights, or, for Workers, your conduct during a session, and, for Sponsors, any misrepresentation of authority over a property or any hazardous condition on it.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us at khughes@LitterGig.com and give us thirty days to resolve it informally. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be settled by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its rules, in Montgomery County, Maryland or by video, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court. You and Litter Gig waive any right to a jury trial and to bring or join a class, collective or representative action. You may opt out of this arbitration clause by emailing us within thirty days of first accepting these terms.
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the apps or by email, and the date at the top of this page will change. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
